Classified as an introductory course, it is aimed at anyone who wants to participate and aims to make known the essential keys to this art in order to distinguish flamenco styles in an educational way, through elements such as rhythm, literary structure, musical scales, etc. Audiovisual sound examples will be included.

An educational and entertaining introductory guide to learn to distinguish the different variants that make up the expression jonda... During the four Tuesdays of November 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. ... Meter, literary structure, compass, tonality... we begin an exciting experience!

The course will take place over four Tuesdays (7, 14, 21 and 28) in November 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (8 hours) at Espacio Expoflamenco in Jerez (Los Ramos Building on Calle Diego Fernández Herrera s/n), and will be directed by José María Castaño, @caminosdelcante and @expoflamenco.

The promotional price of the course is €45 (-25% included), promotion valid until October 25th + gift courtesy of Expoflamenco. The normal price of the course after October 20th will be €60. In any case, it includes the delivery of materials and will be available online for later viewing for 3 months at no additional cost. As well as a tutorial email. Ask for a discount for groups.

Program and contents:

Tuesday, November 7, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Welcome greeting and delivery of materials. Common elements of all flamenco styles: Scales, literary metrics, compass, modes, melodic structures. Pre-flamenco and the first defined fruits of flamenco. Evolutionary process. The 3x4 rhythm. The parent genre of the fandango and its derivatives. Folkloric fandangos. Regional fandangos. The Huelva fandango. The verdial fandango and the abandolaos. The fandango from Málaga to Cartagena (malagueñas, granaínas, medias granaínas). The so-called cante de levante (tarantas, tarantos, cartageneras). The Natural or Artistic fandango.

Tuesday, November 14, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The amalgam rhythm. The parent genre of the soleá and its derivatives. The soleá, the first defined fruit of flamenco. Structure and foundations. A large family: caña and polo; the cantiñas; the bambera; the bulería; the bulería por soleá, the romance. The soleá itself.

Tuesday, November 21, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.:

The binary beat. The parent genre of tangos and their derivatives. We are talking about America and Africa. Cantes de Ida y Vuelta. The tientos, the Marianas, the Rumbas, the primary Quejío. The governing genre of the siguiriya and its derivatives. A beginning: the tonás and the martinetes, the Nana, the Cabales. The integration process. Serranas and Livianas.

Tuesday, November 28, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.:

General review of all the content taught during the course. Auditions and screenings. Exercises for students to recognize styles. Questions and presentation of certificates.
