Flamenco. Orientalism, exoticism and the Spanish national identity. Trinidad Pardo Ballester -POS

It shows how the orientalization and exoticism of flamenco culture affected the perception of Spanish national identity during the 19th and 20th centuries. It analyses various orientalist and exotic discourses created by representatives of three cultural movements, romanticism, modernism and postmodernism, together with a political ideology, Francoism, which contributed to shaping modern Spanish identity. It brings up two myths: that of exotic Spain and that of Carmen, and what was derived from them.
