Flamenco bass begins with Carles Benavent to be part of flamenco thanks to Paco de
Lucía, who sees the need to incorporate this string instrument and opens up that space for it. From its very beginning, the bass has been evolving and seeking its place within this music.

Today, we can find it in recordings, live performances or even sometimes taking the place of the guitar and experimenting in this field. This course is an eminently practical look at how this instrument, originally created for use in Anglo-Saxon music: soul, rock, pop, jazz, became part of the most revolutionary flamenco band: the Sexteto de Paco de Lucía. From then on, we will study how its expressive discourse is currently articulated.

Contents:
Presentation of rhythmic patterns. How to understand the "beat". How to situate ourselves within flamenco, from the rhythm, the melody or the harmony. Bridges between other styles. How to use flamenco resources to enrich our own way of playing the bass. All this focused on the following styles:

Rumbas, Tangos, Tanguillos, Bulerías and Alegrías.

Program:

The course will be held at Espacio Expoflamenco, calle Diego Fernández Herrera s/n, Edificio Los Ramos de Jerez. It will have the following schedule: from 11:00 to 13:30 with a break.

Tuesday, August 6, 11:00 a.m.:

This first day is a core subject for other instruments because they are general subjects: introduction to flamenco and the use of other instruments beyond the guitar. Styles: rumba, tangos, tanguillos, alegrías, bulerías. Harmony. Rhythmic patterns. Use of clapping (basic concepts). Feeling the beat. Codes and hierarchy within music.

Wednesday, August 7, 11:00 a.m.:

We focus on flamenco bass. Its sound. Patterns with the bass in the different styles. Rhythmic, harmonic and melodic resources. What role is expected of us as flamenco bassists?

The teacher, Ricardo Piñero:
Bassist from Jerez. He completed his first formal studies at the Barcelona Taller de Músics with Mariano Martos and Carles Benavent. He always had one foot on the street and the other in the classroom. He leads his own projects "Triando" and "No es Flamenco". He is requested by musicians and artists such as Tito Alcedo, Paco Cepero, Javier Patino as well as many others. A musician in constant movement who uses flamenco as a base.
of his expression and search for his language, but that does not mean he stops traveling in other waters, other things to tell. He alternates work as a session musician on recordings, with live performances and teaching.
