Sinopsis
Este libro no trata solo de los cantes de ida y vuelta, aquellas canciones de evidente origen hispanoamericano que, tras ser convenientemente aflamencadas, acabaron integrándose en el repertorio jondo. Se trata de poner en solfa la historia del flamenco y situarla en perspectiva atlántica. No ha sido fácil la tarea, el tema es delicado de afrontar con el rigor que se espera de un estudio bien documentado. Para llevarla a cabo ha sido preciso hacerle un jaque a buena parte de los dogmas más o menos aceptados en torno a los procesos que dieron lugar al flamenco.
A causa del etnocentrismo que padecemos los occidentales, aun en el siglo XXI, tenemos pendiente una importante asignatura respecto a la ciencia histórica: que el estudio de Europa y lo europeo tenga en cuenta el horizonte americano entre sus principales fuentes de su riqueza cultural. Si las provincias americanas del viejo continente, Sevilla y Cádiz, no solo forjaron el flamenco sino que protagonizaron la empresa atlántica, el género musical que nos ocupa debe ser entonces mucho más americano de lo que la flamencología tradicionalmente ha querido reconocer. Y de esto va este libro.
