Synopsis

In Carlos Lencero's Space Odyssey, six flamenco stories are brought together, twenty-three
articles, six CD booklets, an interview, a book of fandangos and thirty poems about
flamenco artists. They all talk about flamenco in a direct and personal way.
Lencero met a great diversity of flamenco artists first hand. First in the
Plaza Alta in Badajoz, where he heard the main figures: Porrina, el Musiquina, la
Marelu or Juan Salazar. In Jerez, where he lived for a while in 1974, he heard Terremoto, the
Chocolate, Manuel Agujeta, he writes very sincere portraits of them, he leaves us a reflection
personal of these artists and their ways of interpreting the most deep palos. After spending a few
years in Morocco he settled in Seville, where he would live most of his artistic life.
friendship with the Amador family and Ricardo Pachón, with whom he will maintain a friendship for
life. He collaborates with Ricardo in the series El Ángel and writes lyrics for Pata Negra, Diego
Carrasco, Remedios Amaya, Camarón, la Macanita... They are artists that Lencero knows from
personal way, knowing how to perfectly adapt the lyrics to the artist's personality.
He also collaborates with the magazine Alma100 and La Flamenca, whose texts you will find in these
pages. Lencero was a writer who knew how to live in the moment and transport it to paper in a
visceral, and it shows. In the stories you can see the reflection of writers like Bukowski or
Ferdinand Céline, whom he admired tremendously. Lencero knew how to make use of his influences
a personal, Dionysian, immediate style. These pages are a good example of understanding the
flamenco as a way of life, a way of being in the world.
