Synopsis
This book is not just about cantes de ida y vuelta, those songs of obvious Spanish-American origin that, after being suitably flamenco, ended up being integrated into the jondo repertoire. It is a matter of putting the history of flamenco into question and placing it in an Atlantic perspective. The task has not been easy, the issue is delicate to face with the rigor expected from a well-documented study. In order to carry it out, it has been necessary to challenge a large part of the more or less accepted dogmas regarding the processes that gave rise to flamenco.
Because of the ethnocentrism that we Westerners suffer, even in the XXI, we have pending an important subject regarding historical science: that the study of Europe and the European take into account the American horizon among its main sources of its cultural wealth. If the American provinces of the old continent, Seville and Cádiz, not only forged flamenco but also led the Atlantic enterprise, then the musical genre in question must be much more American than flamencology has traditionally wanted to recognize. And this is what this book is about.
