Born in 1976, the Mairena singer Antonio Ortega Jiménez (known artistically as Antonio Ortega Hijo) won first prize for saetas at the Peña Torres Macarena in Seville at the age of 12, but it was not until 1999 that he decided to begin his professional career. Since then he has not stopped participating in festivals and competitions, winning more than 80 first prizes, including the Casa del Arte Flamenco Prize (Mairena del Alcor, 2001), the Cantes Bajo Andaluces Prize (La Unión, 2002), the Soleá de Alcalá (2005), the Silla de Oro (Leganés, 2005), the Antonio Mairena Prize at the Córdoba National Competition (Córdoba, 2007), the Membrillo de Oro Prize (Puente Genil, 2014) and the Colón Flamenco Prize (Huelva, 2016).

With a family background in flamenco singing that is deeply rooted in Mairena del Alcor - and which indirectly links him to the legendary Hornerito and Diego Manolete - Antonio maintains a Mairena-style foundation from which he has been growing towards other aesthetic spaces, seeking his personality but without straying from the flamenco scene.
